It is a fair question for any GP trainee sitting the SCA: if a general AI assistant can already hold a spoken conversation, why practise on a purpose-built simulator instead? For plenty of your revision, you should not — a general assistant is cheaper, more flexible, and genuinely good at talking through guidelines, differentials and management plans between cases.
The difference shows up the moment you want to be examined rather than helped. The SCA itself is a full circuit of 12 cases, 12 minutes of consultation each; role-play is the easy half of that, and the clock, a case you did not write yourself, and a record of how your marks are moving across the RCGP’s three domains are the half that actually tells you where you stand.

The verdict
A general AI assistant is a good study companion and a poor examiner for the SCA. It will talk a case through with you all day, but it has no RCGP criteria to hold you to, cannot withhold a case from you the way a real SCA case is withheld, and cannot tell you that your Relating to Others marks have been slipping over your last few consultations.
