Teaching stations test whether you can teach a skill with structure, pitched at the learner’s level. Here the task is to teach a student how to take a history.
How to structure it
- Set the scene and find out the student’s current level and goals.
- Explain a clear framework for history taking, with a worked example.
- Give the student a chance to try, then offer specific, constructive feedback.
- Summarise the key points and check the student feels confident.
Common pitfalls
- Lecturing instead of involving the learner.
- Pitching too high or too low without checking their level.
- Giving vague feedback rather than specific, actionable points.
Marks come from a clear teaching structure, active learner involvement, and specific, encouraging feedback.
