Proxy decision-maker

A person legally authorised to make decisions for someone who lacks capacity, such as a health and welfare Lasting Power of Attorney or a court-appointed deputy.

Identifying whether a valid proxy exists changes who decides. Without one, the team makes a best-interests decision under the Mental Capacity Act.
