Eliciting the patient’s ideas

Asking what the patient themselves thinks is causing their problem — the "I" of ICE — which often reveals a specific fear to address.

A simple "What do you think might be going on?" frequently uncovers the real reason for attendance and gives you something concrete to reassure or correct.
