Montgomery (consent ruling)

Also known as: Montgomery v Lanarkshire

The UK legal standard for consent: doctors must disclose the material risks a reasonable patient in that position would want to know, not just what a body of doctors would disclose.

Montgomery makes patient-centred risk disclosure a legal requirement. In consent stations, tailoring the risks you discuss to what matters to this patient reflects the current standard.
