Foundation Year 1 (FY1)

Also known as: FY1, F1

The first year of the UK Foundation Programme, the supervised first year of work for a newly qualified doctor, leading to full GMC registration.

Many PLAB candidates begin work at FY-equivalent levels. Knowing the FY1 role and its supervision helps you pitch colleague and escalation scenarios correctly.
