About the RCGP SCA
- What is the RCGP SCA?
- The Simulated Consultation Assessment is the clinical component of the MRCGP, the qualification GP trainees in the UK must pass to become a GP. You consult with simulated patients across a full circuit of 12 cases in one sitting — most by video, some by telephone.
- How long is each RCGP SCA case?
- You get 3 minutes to read the case notes, then 12 minutes to consult with the patient, with a 10-minute break after the sixth case.
- How is the RCGP SCA marked?
- Each case is graded across three domains: Data Gathering and Diagnosis, Clinical Management and Medical Complexity, and Relating to Others. Clinical Management and Medical Complexity carries more weight than the other two, because it maps to more of the curriculum.
- What feedback do RCGP SCA candidates get?
- Alongside your marks, the RCGP gives candidates published feedback statements in the college’s own wording. These are not performance indicators, play no part in the marking, and are given to candidates who pass as well as those who don’t.
- Does ZWIP membership cover both PLAB 2 and the RCGP SCA?
- Yes. One ZWIP membership covers practice for both exams, so you do not need a separate subscription to prepare for the SCA alongside PLAB 2 practice or revision.
- Is ZWIP affiliated with the RCGP?
- No. ZWIP is an independent practice platform, not affiliated with or endorsed by the RCGP. The exam format and marking domains reflect the real SCA; the RCGP does not review or approve our simulated cases or feedback.
